【Assure】可以表示证实或使人觉得确实.
例如：The doctor assured him that his child would recover from the illness（医生向他保证说他的孩子会痊愈）;
The fact that the hospital had a good reputation assured him that his child would be well taken care of（该医院声誉良好,使他确信孩子将受到妥善的照顾）.
【Ensure】可拼作insure,它的意思是保证某些行动或者媒介获得结果.
例如：To ensure the child's quick recovery,the doctor gave him an antibiotic（为确保那孩子获迅速痊愈,医生给他注射抗生素）.
Ensure也有保障,防受伤害的意思.
例如：to ensure freedom against tyranny（保障反抗暴政的自由）.
【Guarantee】的意思是指对产品质素或履行服务或义务负起责任的保证.
Guarantee一项债务的人,assure债主一定获得付款.
【Promise】像assure一样,往往是指设法令人觉得稳当可靠,但是并不guarantee结果必如所期.Promise是应承的意思,只表示自己的意向,而非负起义务,连小孩子都知道并不是一切诺言都受人遵守.
例如：to promise someone a rise in pay（答应给某人加薪）;
to promise to keep an appointment（应允践约）
在另一意义上,promise只表示有乐观理由.病人回复胃口可视为promising迹象.
