As China has been a member of the international group WTO, the connection between China and the western world becomes closer and closer. In order to get a better understanding of each other, we set the research topic, -to learn the custom and culture of the western world.
Through the research and study of the comparison of the different customs and culture between China and the western world, we can know more about the western history and learn the advantage of theirs. By studying this, we can be more couple of dealing with problems and difficulties as well.
日常谈话中的文化判别
见面打招呼
中国人在吃饭前后打招呼的常用语“吃（饭）了吗？”而美国人则用“Hello”或“Hi”等。如果不理解其涵义，美国人会认为，这种打招呼是说：“没有吃的话，我正要请你到我家去呢。”总之，这样打招呼在西方有时意味着邀请对方去吃饭。
再如，汉语中的“上哪去啊？”以及“到哪儿去啊？”这样打招呼的话直译成英语就是Where are you going?和Where have you been?用这两句英语来打招呼，大部分讲英语的人听了会不高兴，它们反应很可能是：It’s none of your business!（你管得着吗？）
、浅析文化差异现象的根源
1、概念意义的差异
概念意义即词汇的基本意义。它是客观事物在人们意识中的反映和概括。在中西方不同文化背景下，客观事物本身存在差异，人们对客观事物的反映和概括便会留下深刻的文化烙印，因此，英汉词汇在概念意义上常具有不同的内涵，其表现为：
1）、两种语言中反映各自社会特色的词语，存在着对应空间。如西方饮食中的sandwich，hamburger，salad，中国人既未看过，更未吃过，只好音译为“三明治”、“汉堡包”、“色拉”，美国人生活中特有的drugstore，汉语中还没有一个词语能贴切地表达其内涵，也只能以注释性的文字说明它是“出售药物、糖果、饮料及其他日用杂品的店铺”。同样，汉语里的一些词，如“天干”、“地支”、“楷书”、“普通话”、“太极拳”等，在英语中也找不到对应词。
2）、一些字面意思对应的词语，其实际意义和感情色彩并不对应。表面看来，汉语的“朋友”、“友谊”和英语的friend，friendship很对应，但实际上，中国人交朋友重在感情上的交流，真诚的友谊应达到相互信任、荣辱与共。而西方的 friend，是指有共同感受或喜爱、能在一起愉快地生活的人，friendship在很大程度上是一种伙伴关系，由此可见，英语的friend，friendship与汉语中的“朋友”、“友谊”在词汇内涵上是貌合神离的。再如，英语of course的语面意义相当于汉语的“当然”、“自然”，但of course常用来表示对方所

In China, greeting by a handshake is okay while in many western countries, a face kiss or back-hand kiss sometimes seems necessary.
Western people start a conversation by talking about the weather or compliments on their dress.In China, people will start a conversation by asking: have you had dinner yet? which seems they are asking he or her out for dinner for Western people.
The formalit of visitting is different too.People will bring a present to a wedding ceremony,birthday party or a new born celebration etc.when invited. Most of countries in the world share the common formalit. Wastern people send gifts oftenly. They don't expect you to bring a gift when you were invited. But if you really want to do so, an inexpensive is okay or a card will also be fine. But in China, people seldom send cards or folwers but monetary gifts.It's avoidless to give cash to just-married couples in the ceremony as a gift. Some people may give gifts too, but it would be huge and expensive,for example, a TV set or a couch for a new house celebration. Further more, Western people will be very supprise when they receive gifts, and can't wait to unwrap it as soon as receive it. It's opposite to China. Chinese people won't open their gifts in front of their freinds who give them the gifts.
