为什么

1.the moment可以做连词,引导一个时间状语从句.
the moment=as soon as 翻译为“一...,就...”
2.用before就不好了.
before引导的时间状语从句的动作一般要发生在主句动作之后；
而the moment引导的时间状语从句的动作则要发生在主句动作之前,且强调主句动作跟着马上发生.
3.如：
1）I had watched TV before I went to sleep last night.
昨晚在我入睡之前,我看了会电视.
2) The moment I watched TV last night,I went to sleep.
昨晚我一看电视,我便睡着了.

用了before 语义就变了

不可以,用moment的意思是“一……就”即“在你看到这封信的那刻”，是表示时间的，而换成before则变成了“在你看到之前”，虽然也可以用，但是不如monent的语境合适，请仔细体会一下。
