为什么一个句子里有两个动词?一个是there后面的“is”,一个是some of them后面的“are”,这是什么从句啊?

这是托福听力题中的一段对话.
参考译文：那里面（构造）多种多样,世界上没有别的地方可以与它们相提并论,它们中的一些样子精致,就像装饰品一样.
问题一：like nothing anywhere else in the world,此处的like是介词,意思是：像；如同.这部分是用来修饰variety的.
问题二：前面是一个there be句型,前面把variety看做一个整体,故用单数.后面,some of them,其中的them就是variety,只不过这里将整体看成很多单个组成,故用复数.前后两个主语一致,自然可以用两个be动词.

我感觉，在这个句子中like是介词像....的意思， 应该是个并列句
