Going for a walk is common in Britain,but it is just not part of the American idea.An English traveler who was just walking along the road in Los Angeles was questioned by the police because it seemed so strange that he should be doing this.Except in town centers it is rare to find a side-walk beside a road,and some suburban roads are so bad that cars have to travel very slowly——too slowly to be dangerous to children.A person who tries to walk at night may find not only that there are no lights along both sides of the road,but also that he will be foloowed by angry dogs from the houses among which he is passing.The dogs fell so strange to see anybody walking that,like the Los Angeles police,they think he must do up to no good.
